Bloggy Bandwagon...

So as I was browsing some of my favorite blogs this morning as I often do (everyday to be exact) I came across some interesting news. It seems that there is a giveaway carnival that I must...must...must partake in. I thought long and hard about what little old me could give away.

Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival Button
I really wanted it to be something handcrafted by me, with not so much effort that I pull my hair out. Trying to finish yet another project might put me over the edge, so I decided on a pillow made from some of the funky fabric I picked up during my "Thrift Store Madness Mania" I indulged in today. It was retail therapy on my minuet budget. And let me just say it was a treasure hunt today...here are a few pictures!

These are leftover pieces of upholstery fabric, some a bit heavy than others. One of the bags was marked silk...and it feels, well "silky"! My favorite is the red velvet with green/cream pinstripes...I could see that one made into a pillow for my couch...YES!!!

And here is a shot of the clothes I picked up for my oldest daughter who really was lacking in the summer clothes department. I got all this for about 10 bucks, considering one of the items is Abercrombie, another is gap and another is Tommy H I think it was a deal.

And last but not least, my last treasure of the day was this green table cloth. It's clearly very old...but I thought it was so springy...and it's vintage, who could not love a lacy green vintage table cloth?

So to win a handcrafted pillow in your choice of fabric, make a comment about your favorite Thrift Store find or treasure...or maybe it was a yard sale...whatever, just tell me about it and I'll pick a Random winner on Saturday from those of you who comment! Good Luck!!

I would almost say the leather jacket-- it was worth the most, and the clothes that I've been able to find and remake have been lots of fun, but truly, it was the old book I found tucked into a dusty corner one day. A book of hymns. So many have become treasures, things I come back to time and time again.

I love a good yard sale...but when I want something for FREE, I haunt the CraigsList free section here in the greater Seattle area...3 years ago i suddenly decided I couldn't live without a piano...so I haunted and Haunted and HAUNTED the Free section. And lucky did I get! My piano is over 100 years old and it's beautiful...it has carvings on the front; the soundboard is perfect; and my daughter can now take piano lessons!

My favorite garage sale find was my futon. It was 20 dollars and they said it was broken. We came home and drilled on one board. We've had it for 5 years and it's still almost perfect!

My favorite Yard Sale treasure was a wonderful queen sized quilt I bought for 50 cents! It was gorgeous and had a gardening theme. I used it as a fundraiser auction for Autism Awareness.

My all-time favorite thrifty buy was at a garage sale in 1994 in Dallas.

I bought a great canvas tote for 10 cents that lasted us about 8 or 9 years before it finally gave up for good.

This week we went to an estate sale for a deceased woman whose book collection could rival our big main library in our big metropolitan city. She had giant rooms built on her home to house the books, plus several sheds full of thousands of books. All in all, her total had to be in the millions. We got about 60 books for $14.

Mine was a glass owl that was the perfect gift for my boss who collected owls as the school mascot. He loved it - and it cost me a quarter!

I am looking for tote material. Heavy canvas material.

Pillow silky or 100% cotton.

Thank you and good luck to all.

No matter were I go, whether it's a yard sale or thrift store, I alway head for the books. I was at a yard sale recently were I got seven books for five dollars and two of those books were hard back. I love the bottom fabrics in both of your pictures. Either look like they would make great pillows. Thanks for the chance to win.

One of my favorite vintage finds a stuff-a-bag-for-a-buck sale at a thrift store here in town... I fit a whole bunch of clothes for my sister and for me, a huge green leather purse (kind of a 70s feel), a cool sheet and a down comforter in one bag. I felt like a million bucks.

About 15 or so years ago, while in high school, when I began hanging out with the "skaters" I wanted to fit in by dressing like them...so while thrift store shopping in San Francisco I bought my first piece, a pair of SIZE 40 jeans. My mom thought I was crazy since I naturally wore size 2 or something, but I was super excited and wore those jeans A LOT during that phase. Now looking back I don't know what I was thinking, but it is a good little chuckle.

the best find I ever had was a huge bag of yarn (really soft and silky) I got for $5. Inside was 15 assorted rolls. Most had price tags of $7 to $9 each and I got them all for $5. They were beautiful. I made hats and dresses and sweaters for my neice and daughter

We have a Once Upon A Child not far from us, and I got in on a bag sale for $15.00 considering I stuffed that sucker as full as it could be and got numerous baby outfit gifts with tags still attached I was smiling for days!

I love the skirt you picked up for your daughter, why can't I ever find that sort of thing when I go shopping in thrift stores or garage sales? Oh, well. As for my favorite fabric, in the photo, it looks like blue and tan checkered fabric, that would be my choice.
My best find at a yard sale was a Little Tykes play house when my oldest children were very young. I prayed for one and I went out on a Saturday morning at 8:00 am (not very early for those in the know about yard sales) but there it was, waiting for me, a gift from God. That was my best ever find.

My favorite find was at a yard sale. This lady was selling clothes that looked brand knew that fit my daughter. The lady told me she over buys for her kids which was fine for me because I got nice looking clothes for cheap. She had a ton of clothes and was even offering to pull more out of her kids dressers!

I found a Hanna Andersson dress for my daughter at a garage sale when she was 3. It was her favorite dress till she was 5 (!) and I think I paid something like 50 cents for it. She's 18 now and always finds great deals for herself at sales and thrift shops.

Love this idea for a giveaway! Thanks for the chance to participate!

I love thrift stores! Last week I got a stroller that was so new the tires still had to little nubby things on them that new tires have. I looked it up on-line and it sells from $170-200. I paid $15! I had trouble sleeping that night because I was so excited. I still can hardly believe the deal I got.

We had been looking at Floppy seats for a couple of months (we started after our daughter started sitting up, but before she was too big to sit in the infant [car] seat in the cart). Retailing at about $40 the price were a bit much for us, but we felt like it was going to be a good purchase.

While watching to see if they went on sale, we ended up finding one in almost new condition (you couldn't tell if it had been used at all!), we found one at our favorite thrift store for five whole dollars! Needless to say we snatched it up quickly!

I've been thrift store shopping for a long time and I love it. By shopping this way, I've probably saved thousands on children's clothing and books. But this is the most that I've saved on one item. And it's really paying for itself, too... our daughter has gotten full use out of it, our son will soon be using it and we're due in the fall with a little one while will get full use out of it, too!

I hate tooting my own horn, but I think I did pretty good!

I love thrift store shopping and yard sales!! I buy all of our clothes at either of those places. I buy all of my picture frames there and come home and paint them to match my decor. I love it when people comment on an outfit and ask where I got it and I say the salvation army for $2 or so!!

Hmm... it's hard to choose just one because I was raised on bargain shopping. It might be the skirt that my mom/sister gave me... It was a major label, complete with a tag on it. They got it for $5. The tag read $150!
One of my favorite finds was an orange crate that had been painted. I used it as a bedside table for years... my husband always hated it and I finally gave in and sent it to Goodwill.

I have to admit I'm jealous of your finds! But it reminds me that I need to keep my eyes open for alternative fabric sources!

I shop in thrift shops all the time. My favorite item I found is a lovely copper pitcher. I paid 6 dollars for it and was using it for fake flowers. I started researching the mark on the bottom and found out it was made in the 1920's. It won't make me rich but it is worth about 100 dollars. I still love the pitcher.

I found a set of Pyrex mixing bowls, just like the ones my mom always used, for $1.00 at a yard sale. I haven't been to many thrift stores but I really need to get in the habit. Sounds like there's some great treasures to be found there!

I was driving with our lawn rake (the kind you pull behind a riding lawn mower) in the back of our truck, when this 100 lb rake decided to just up and jump out. We didn't have the money to replace it- but to our astonishment we found one at a garage sale only a couple days later in great condition for only $25. We had never ran across one at a yard sale before and never gave since! talk about good luck! Thanks for the great giveaway!

My lovely brown little tea pot - I use it every day! And, best yet, free! The lady having the yard sale was a friend of a friend and she didn't want it to go to "just anybody" and she just handed it to me and said, "Here take it and love it." So, I did and do! ;-)

Thanks for offering a handmade pillow to someone!

The only good thing about plastic is that it's recycleable -- our best recent thrift find was a huge set of legos for only $2! (plastic is the devil, but once it's here, we might as well use it forever because that's how long it lasts, so I never buy plastic toys new!)
