Hectic Life of American Girl update

Well it seems my life has been one roller coaster after another the past few weeks. I can relate to the saying..."when it rains it pours", well unless you live in the desert where they have closed the Forrest because of our EXTREME fire conditions. But there is hope, it's currently sprinkling as I write this post. So where do I begin...

First we had a girl scouts sleepover at the zoo...that was interesting, but don't get me wrong it was fun! Try sleeping at the zoo with a train blaring through every hour...and 12 little girls in a tent all night. They were truly angels...and I can't complain too much...

Earth Day

So I think when I last posted we were anticipating a gymnastics day with the girls...

They had a wonderful time and the exciting part was everyone took home a ribbon from each competition. We have another about an hour away on Saturday...

My creation

Then I went out of town for a business trip...no pictures there but I did enjoy visiting Missouri for two days. Words that come to mind to describe my trip include: Adult conversation, yummy dessert, casino fun, sleeplessness, information overload and good friends!

After returning home for a day I was off to Albuquerque with my brownie troop for some fun at the zoo and aquarium. We had 7 girls and 6 moms along for the adventure. Treating the girls to dinner at Sweet Tomatoes was a hit...and staying on the base was a great choice. Well unless your sweet, innocent daughter calls 911 and the Security Police show up at your door. Of course we had to give them the "911 only in case of emergency", lecture...but when it's the troop leaders daughter...if your the troop leader that's one embarrassing situation.

May Zoo

Then Sunday night my mom calls with some tragic news. Here is the article so you can get the full story. My heart aches for our friends as I can't imagine what I would do in this situation. After my dad passed away a little over a month ago Bob and Sherri were very supportive and emotional as they have been friends with my family for years. To have this happen to their son, I'm literally speechless.

And...

Friday I got stopped on base with an expired insurance card...a citation, walk home to print out new card, drive dh truck to security police to show proof of insurance, drive home, walk back to my car...and then home to get ready for our trip to the Zoo. All of that literally took two hours.

Then Tuesday I get stopped going 57 in a 45...I don't know if it was my breakdown sob fest that the police officer took pity on me...or so he said something big was going down in town and he needed to go...whatever...I got a stern warning to slow down.

But later when I took my dh truck to pick up my daughter I got stopped driving onto base with his truck for expired tags...and low and behold expired insurance card. SHIT...his tags expired in March...OOPS, but thank god the guy was understanding and instead of making me park and walk he gave me a police escort home. Everthing is taken care of now...

Today I looked up my final grades for the semester. My current GPA was 3.89...and now it's dropped to 3.0...all because of my 2 F's and a C for this semester. I know I'm responsible for this and have no regrets...it just flat out sucks. I re-enrolled for the summer into one classes for the summer session. I will pull an A just to prove to myself that an F is unacceptable. But it will help that it's the same teacher and most likely the same course work, I figure I already know what to expect.

So that about it...just trying to breath and take it one day at a time.

Spring is in the air...

April 27th - May 3rd
Spring is underway...

Our little friends are hard at work preparing for a new family!

My older daughter made this bird bath during girl scouts.

And this one because pinwheels make me smile.

Off to a gymnastics day with the girls...If I can figure out how to upload videos I will post some fun stuff tomorrow of my girls during their routines!

Go see more over here

Happy Saturday!

Monkey see, Monkey dooooo

Oh how I'm addicted...but at least this is a healthy addiction!

It just takes 1 cup of this

And one of these...FROZEN

And you get a yummy, thick, cool treat...and it's good for you!! I don't usually drink soy milk on a normal everyday basis, but in something like this is just gives it a different flavor. Cows milk seems so much heaver and does not blend as well. Becasue I'm not a great breakfast eater, these help get me in the mood for something early in the day, and it tastes like a dessert!

Unconscious Mutterings Week 274

Weekly Winners

April 20th - April 26th

Not many shots this week, but here were my three favorites. I need to start taking my camera with me everywhere...then maybe I'll get more interesting shots to someone other than me...oh well I try again next week!

After a night of camping at the zoo, she is still beautiful...

Flag Retirement Ceremony...my little Brownies had to have a big discussion about the difference between burning the flag in protest and actually burring the flag during an Honorable retirement...that was interesting!

My little soccer star, our last game of the season!

If you want to check out more of Weekly Winners go right here and take a peek!

And the winner is...

Well, I'm a bit behind but trying to play catch up on this not so wonderful Monday! First things first...I need to announce the winner of my giveaway, so using RANDOM.ORG the first number picked was #35...

This was what #35 had to say...

"Peculiar How sweet! I would love a handmade pillow. I love handmade things. This is great! I love thrift store shopping and garage sales. I've gotten so many treasures, like French phones for $5, a ton of vintage tea cups (this is my favorite to collect), vintage sterling silver, vintage clothes, old books, an old Bible, the list would go on and on. Now that its warm, I'm ready to go garage sale shopping again. Enter me. Thanks for the giveaway..."

She sounds like my kind of girl...anything vintage is right up my alley!

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful comments...reading about your amazing treasures was fun...makes me want to go out there and shop!

So now she just needs to pick a fabric...and wait for my baby to be returned to me from the repair shop so I can whip up a cute little pillow. I was thinking a cute vintage inspired patchwork design to use a few of these wonderful fabrics together...but she will need to okay that before I can get started!

Oh and I almost forgot...if you want to see the complete list of winners go here!

Bloggy Bandwagon...

So as I was browsing some of my favorite blogs this morning as I often do (everyday to be exact) I came across some interesting news. It seems that there is a giveaway carnival that I must...must...must partake in. I thought long and hard about what little old me could give away.

Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival Button
I really wanted it to be something handcrafted by me, with not so much effort that I pull my hair out. Trying to finish yet another project might put me over the edge, so I decided on a pillow made from some of the funky fabric I picked up during my "Thrift Store Madness Mania" I indulged in today. It was retail therapy on my minuet budget. And let me just say it was a treasure hunt today...here are a few pictures!

These are leftover pieces of upholstery fabric, some a bit heavy than others. One of the bags was marked silk...and it feels, well "silky"! My favorite is the red velvet with green/cream pinstripes...I could see that one made into a pillow for my couch...YES!!!

And here is a shot of the clothes I picked up for my oldest daughter who really was lacking in the summer clothes department. I got all this for about 10 bucks, considering one of the items is Abercrombie, another is gap and another is Tommy H I think it was a deal.

And last but not least, my last treasure of the day was this green table cloth. It's clearly very old...but I thought it was so springy...and it's vintage, who could not love a lacy green vintage table cloth?

So to win a handcrafted pillow in your choice of fabric, make a comment about your favorite Thrift Store find or treasure...or maybe it was a yard sale...whatever, just tell me about it and I'll pick a Random winner on Saturday from those of you who comment! Good Luck!!
